Accomplishments

Chen taught in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at California State University, Northridge from 1993 to 2007 and in the Department of Planning, Policy and Design at University of California, Irvine from 2006 to 2007. While at Northridge, he received the Outstanding Professor Award three times from the department and the Urban Studies and Planning Association of Students. In addition, he served as a committee member of the Transportation Research Board for the National Research Council from 2002 to 2006. He joined VCU as an associate professor in 2007 and received his tenure in 2011.
