Visiting Scholar Lecture to feature ASU professor, Thomas Catlaw

On Tuesday, April 17, the Wilder School will host its spring 2012 Visiting Scholar Lecture in the Sports Medicine Building, featuring Thomas J. Catlaw, Ph.D. The event will be held in the first floor conference room from 5-6:30 p.m. A light reception will follow.
Catlaw is an associate professor of public affairs at the School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University. His lecture entitled “Post-Representational Governance: Rethinking Democracy from the Ground Up” is free and open to the public. His most recently published book, “Fabricating the People: Politics and Administration in the Biopolitical State,” examines the precipitous rise in American antigovernment sentiment since the 1960s. Catlaw is the former editor of “Administrative Theory and Praxis,” the leading journal on public administration theory. His research interests include public administration theory, history and foundations of public administration, authority and legitimacy, political participation and representation and social and political theory. Catlaw obtained his Ph.D. and M.P.A. in Public Administration from George Washington University and a B.A. in International Studies from Trinity College.
The Visiting Scholar Lecture is now in its 16th year and was instituted by VCU public administration faculty in 1996. It provides an opportunity for students, faculty, alumni and friends to meet and hear notable scholars in the field of public administration and public policy. Each year, the faculty selects a colleague whose scholarly work has advanced the field and has resulted in a recently authored work of interest to public administration students. The lecture may be on that topic or on another topic of the scholar’s choosing. The Visiting Scholar Lecture is supported in large part by alumni donations. We look forward each year with anticipation to this event which has become a fond part of the school’s academic heritage.
